Welcome to the Archer Family Tree blog

This blog has been created to help the family share information, photos, stories and history. Your comments and contributions are most welcome!

By the way, I have no idea if this is really our coat of arms, but it seemed like a fun way to get the ball rolling!

Hi,

My name is Richard Archer. I live in St. Peter, Barbados. My father was John Anthony Keith (Tony), my grand father Herbert Keith, who had siblings Stanley & Elenor (Nell). My great grandfather was Norman L. Archer who built and ran the Archer Pharmacy in Speightstown, St. Peter and Alpha Pharmacy in Christ Church. He lived for a time in a house called 'Newstead' in Mile & a Quarter, St. Peter, and also built a home on Darylls Road Christ Church, also called 'Newstead' I know he had a brother (name unknown) who emigrated to Jamaica, and that their father was named George. Beyond that I do not know much, but was interested to stumble across your blog. We seem to have similar backgrounds, in that we seem to have ancestors from St. Peter & St. Lucy, Barbados. Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated. By the way, where exactly is Albion Lodge?

Edward Archer marr to Elizabeth Bullen was the son of Edward died about 1725 and Elizabeth. This Edward was the son of Edward born about 1640, Worcester City, England and Elizabeth Braithwaite, he died in 1692 and was the son of Robert Archer of Worcester City and Anne Skinner. This Robert was a direct descendant of the Archers of Umberslade Hall, Warwickshire.

I am an Archer too. I am Rebecca (Archer) Calderon. I live in Leander, TX. My father is Robert Archer, Jr. of Youngstown, Ohio. My grandfather is also Robert Archer, Sr. of Ohio as well. I have 2 sisters. My father had no siblings and I don't much about my grandfather's family since he passed many years ago.

I enjoy reading and learning about the Archer family history.

Has anyone of the men from this line done a YDNA test for genealogy purposes? My Benjamin Archer (1727-1780) has. Happy to share information if anyone is interested.

Hi Everyone,
My name is James Lawrence-Archer.
I live in Natick, just outside Boston, MA.
I have been doing research into the Archer family from Umberslade Hall, Tanworth-in-Arden.
I have started to look at the branches of the family who lived in Barbados and Jamaica.
Besides FamilySearch, what other sources are available to use as research tools?
Regards
James

Hi I'm joseph archer and i am very intrigued about the archer family tree and how we stretch all over the world I wanted to know how the archers got to the UK as my great grandmother was Irish and my family live in St. Helens, Merseyside, England :)

The first Archer that can be found, confirmed on a pedigree approved and held by the College of Arms in London is Fulbert le Archer born about 1124. It is not known whether he was born in England or France. The Archers were retainers of subsequent Earls of Warwick and were employed by the Earls through the years to fight in France, Spain, Scotland, Wales etc.

I am trying to research my family routes. My great-grandmother was Lilian Archer Jones (She married Nathaniel Jones - Archer is her maiden name). Her brother-in-law was Humphrey Jones who owned Woodland Plantation in St George, Barbados. She is the daughter of Samuel Jones who owned a plantation in St Michael, Barbados. I don't think that plantation still exists. She was born in Barbados and moved to North Carolina, US and then eventually ended up in Pennsylvania. I'm hoping someone can help me trace her roots.

Hello... I am trying to find out more about my 5th Great Grandfather Campbell Archer from St. Lucy Barbados, who was born about 1711?, who married a Kiturah Goulding. I cannot find any past info on them. Do these names ring a bell to any of your lineages.

They had 5 children:

Mary Campbell Archer b. 1772 married Thomas Griffiths Bown from St. Lucy Barbados. (my lineage)
Campbell Archer b. 1774
Thomas Archer b. 1776
Keturah Goulding Archer b. 1777
Goulding Samuel Archer b. 1779

If anyone knows anyting about these family lines. Please contact me... cheer and thank you, Lisa B

Hi Lisa,
I have some information on your family branch. It's not properly cited, but could be a start. Following the male line:
Campbell Archer (m. Keturah Golding 22 Feb 1772) (wil 1782)
Edward (m. Mary) (will 15 June 1773), father of Campbell
Anthony of St. Peter (b. abt1697) (will 1740) (bur. 30 July 1740), father of Edward
Edward (m. Elizabeth Austin 3 Sep 1693) (bap. 31 Oct 1678) (will 1725), father of Anthony
Edward (m. Elizabeth Brathwaite 1660) (b. abt 1630) (will 26 Sep 1693), father of Edward

This early information is similar to Jill's, posted April 11, 2011
Campbell's siblings may have been:
-Duncan Campbell (m. Kathlene Gough)
-John
-George
-William

-Bev

Thank you so much Bev...

This really helps. Although I have I found a history document since of the Archers, and I have Anthony Archer being Campbell Archer's father not Edward. Anthony is brother to Edward Archer IV, and son to Edward Archer III.

I have been able to trace back to Sir John Archer and Eleanor Frewin, my 10th Great Grand Parents.

Interestingly, Duncan Campbell is not listed as a son of Anthony Archer in this book... so I took him out of my family tree. But if you know otherwise, let me know.

Hi Lisa,
So nice that you found some information on your family! The information I have is not cited, so it may well be incorrect. The family names were used quite often so it is sometimes difficult to determine which generation an individual is. Is your information cited? I'm looking again at a handwritten family tree that I have and I noticed there IS a Campbell Archer (son of Anthony, brother of Edward). This Campbell Archer had a will dated 1767. But this man would have been the Uncle. Anthony Archer had 8 children, as listed on this family tree. Two of the children were Edward and Campbell. It was Edward, who had a son named Campbell who married Keturah Golding (m. 22Feb 1772).
Please let me know the name of the book you refer to. Do you have a copy? Or is it available digitally?
Thanks, Lisa. Look forward to hearing from you and so glad you share the same exciting hobby.

Okay, Bev then you could be totally right! Thank you. I just need to correct the linkage. LOL!

Is there much info on Edward?

Anyhow, I do have a PDF but its rather large. How do you want me to get it to you.

my email is: ljblackbu@gmail.com

Cheers and thanks for getting me on track...

Hi Ashley,
Was your great grandfather, Edward, also from Barbados? Do you have any additional information?

Hello All,

I’m glad that I stumbled upon this site. Does anyone have any information about the Archer’s living in St. James, Jamaica? I am an Archer. My great-grandfather was Samuel Archer, a sugarcane farmer at a place called Somerton in St. James. I don’t know much about his family besides the fact that he was born around 1901 and had two sisters, Rebecca Archer and Barbara Archer. Any information would be greatly appreciated

Kind regards,
Lyndsay Archer

Hi Lyndsay,
I don't know much about the family who ventured off from Barbados to Jamaica.
I found one person who left:
Dr. James Archer, born. a. 1699 at St. Lucy, Barbados (another source has birth year 1716 which is more likely) (eldest son)
married Christain Sherren abt 1753 in St. Thomas parish in Barbados
d. a 1764 in Jamaica W.I.
Descendants resided at Great Pond Estate, Jamaica (in the late 1700s)
Edward, b. abt 1718 (second son)
no information except he owned Sion Hill and Pilgrim Estates, Jamaica

From the Dr. James Archer line, apparently "This family apparently later moved to Ireland and still later to the USA."
Also, this is noted: This family line is documented in the Ancestral Files of the Utah
Genealogical Society, SLC, Utah,

James & Edward's Parents: Edward Archer. Junior (c. 1678 (or another source 1694)-d. 1769 (or will 1717))
married Elizabeth Bullen (born abt 1675, married abt 1697 (or 1715), probably at St. Lucy, Barbados)

The found much of this information in a published history called
The Archer surname in Barbados, West Indies (1628-1935)...by Andrew James Mill Archer
You can find this book here: https://books.google.ca/books/about/The_Archer_Surname_in_Barbados_West_Indi.html?id=emn3nQEACAAJ&redir_esc=y

Hope this helps. Let me know what you find and if you can trace your ancestors back to this line.
Bev

Responding to Atticus and Chutney from 2013 post:
"Has anyone of the men from this line done a YDNA test for genealogy purposes? My Benjamin Archer (1727-1780) has. Happy to share information if anyone is interested.
~Cynthia Archer"

To respond to Cynthia: Sorry, I have become a co-administrator of this blog and it appears that a response to your post is long overdue.
At this time, our family has not completed the YDNA test, but it is something we are considering. I also noticed there was an Archer DNA group available on Family Tree DNA URL: www.familytreedna.com/public/Archer/
At the end of May 2018, I know there were some changes to privacy laws and I don't know if this site is still available. Was your family part of this Archer DNA group? I would love to hear from you if so.
Thanks,
Bev

Hi Fiona,
I don't have any information about Rebecca Archer. Have you searched the Family Search site for records? You could try:
https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?q.givenName=Rebecca&q.surname=Archer&f.collectionId=1520598
